Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him.

2 Timothy 2:3-4 (NASB)

🪢 By necessity, warriors entangle themselves in "soldiering." They set aside the concerns of everyday life to focus on protecting and serving.

🪢 Sometimes it's hard to unentangle from soldiering-- due to the unseen scars of war (PTSD & Moral Injury), the abrupt changes of home, and the lack of (another) mission.

🪢 Warriors are trained for battle, but not trained to return home. Disentangled is a 6-lesson study, using Scripture and real-life examples, to help warriors unentangle and then re-entangle.

Meet the authors

Bob Waldrep (right), Andrew Edwin Jenkins (left)

Bob Waldrep founded Crosswinds Foundation in 2008 with an eye towards engaging culture-- from the standpoint of faith-- with some of the most pressing concerns of the day.

That stance led to conversations about PTSD-- and eventually three feature-length documentaries on the invisible scars of deployment and war, as well as how trauma affects families.

In the wake of the films, Bob and Andrew began writing and creating resources to encourage, equip, and empower warriors and their families on the healing journey. Disentangled is the third book they've co-authored in this field.

We'll learn together

Part 1 | Warriors

Chapter 1, The Warrior

The definition of what a warrior is and what a warrior does transcends time and place. Though the tools of war have changed, the essence of a warrior has not. Paul applies this imagery to the Christian faith.

Chapter 2, The Cost of Serving

The warrior’s life is difficult. Aside from the everyday challenges everyone faces, warriors pay a unique price for serving. These can impact them even after they return home.

Part 2 | Hope

Chapter 3, PTSD

If warriors don’t find healing from the past, they’ll live the present (and future) in light of it. When they find healing, they’re able to help others in new ways, imparting real hope and comfort.

Chapter 4, Moral Injury

When warriors do things that violate their conscience, their sense of right and wrong, Moral Injury often results. PTSD is a perceived threat to external circumstances. Moral Injury is internal and is expressed as guilt and shame.

Part 3 | Faith

Chapter 5, Hope & Healing

It is not sufficient to merely understand the cost warriors pay for their service (particularly as it relates to PTSD & Moral Injury). In order to move forward, this understanding must lead to the warrior knowing that hope and healing can also be found.

Chapter 6, Be On Mission

In the military, the mission was important. The same is true of our call to follow Christ. Finding a new mission is essential to the warrior as they move forward.

What Others Say

Staff Ouderkirk

Col. USAF (Ret.)

The title of the book, Disentangled, captured my attention and is perfect.

As this book so wonderfully points out, we are unwittingly blindsided by the mixture and complexities of life, including the traumas of Military Service.

As a 30-year veteran, I can relate. The diversity and issues we encounter as veterans and family complicates (entangles) our daily lives and if not addressed they never leave us.

Disentangled offers insight of the Bible that brings out the most poignant examples of how man turns to God for help no matter how dire the situation.

Ginger Branson

LTC US Army (Ret.)

It taught me PTSD and Moral Injury are not new issues for soldiers (warriors) or first responders. Using Biblical references and quotes, I learned that these conditions were suffered by God’s warriors all the way back to the early Old Testament.

...when we are in the military service, we are, indeed, entangled in our mission.

But when we return, this “entanglement” in that mission ends, and we now have to return to home, family, friends, and jobs.  This book explains that transition, and leads us in becoming “disentangled” from our wartime mission, and becoming “re-entangled” with our home mission.

More Praise for Disentangled

Cody Brister

MSgt USAF, Alabama Air National Guard

Service comes at a cost and often with a great burden. Disentangled focuses on the struggle military members and their families face, the war within the mind.

As a pastor and veteran, I relate to this struggle, and I carry my own burdens from service. I’ve had to rapidly deploy into the fight and almost just as rapidly redeploy back into everyday life.

I wish I had a resource like this to help me navigate the things I’ve entangled myself with.

Jim Mukoyama

Major General, US Army (Ret.)

Disentangled is a must read for our military community before, during, and after deployment. It will equip the Warrior and their loved ones to be prepared for the spiritual warfare ahead, how to deal with it in the midst of the battle, and how to achieve hope and healing by disentangling upon return — all of this grounded in faith and community.

This foundation gave me and millions of past and present warriors a peace of mind resulting in joy in life. It is yours for the receiving.
